Week 11: Artist Conversation with Jerry Pena and Kyle Cruz

This week I also did two artists conversations to make up for not being in town during week 10. This week I interviewed two very cool and funny artists Jerry Pena and Kyle Cruz. Pena and Cruz’s work were very different from previous artists I have met in the past. Their art had a sense of urban style to it when I first saw it. I was also impressed with the car bumpers they had on each side when stepping in.

I asked the two artists what was the reasoning to their work and they explained that they wanted their work to be completely different from other art work people usually see. Currently both Pena and Cruz are undergrads at Cal State Long Beach. The art work they created below is called 5620. They both explained that their work took approximately 6 months to prepare and finish. Pena is from North Long Beach and Cruz is from San Francisco.

At the end of the interview, I asked the two what were their main goals and they both replied that they want to stay in school so they can become well known artists. Pena and Cruz do great work together. I cannot wait to see what their next collaboration will be!
